Chenyang´s work that focused on a stereodivergent approach to bicyclic carbonates just got accepted in ACS Catalysis! The work demonstrates a significant influence of the type of base in binary catalysis that offers unique access to carbon-bridged seven-membered cyclic carbonates. The manifold comprises of a sequence of hemi-carbonate induced molecular rearrangements that up to now have not been discovered. The process therefore provides new insights into the use of these elusive species to drive the synthetic chemistry of organic carbonates forward and the discovery of new synthetic applications.
